Role in FIRE-ADAPT: co-leader of the thematic area “carbon dynamics”
Organisation: Centre de Ciència i Tecnologia Forestal de Catalunya (CTFC)
Country: Spain
What motivated me to join FIRE-ADAPT
FIRE-ADAPT is a good opportunity to exchange knowledge between different groups that use fire or try to use different management options to reduce fire risk. At the European level there is a lot of contact, but I think that the fact of being able to contact Latin American countries is an opportunity that we´ve never had.
What my area of work in the project pursues
Find out how different management options, such as reducing fuel for a possible fire, and fire prevention actions affect the carbon balance in the system.
What I highlight about the project
We know our system more or less, but we have no experience with other countries, such as Latin America. They are working a lot on fire issues, they have very important knowledge. The good thing about this project is the experience it will give us, and that both our knowledge and theirs can grow.
How I think FIRE-ADAPT can contribute to changing social perceptions
Whenever we talk about a topic, all social perceptions improve, as long as we are not bothersome or make slogans, but instead try to accompany with arguments and explain things. In Europe there is already a lot of talk about fires, about how they have to be managed beforehand to reduce their risk. Maybe someone from outside who comes has more microphones so that we can hear them, and in this way we can have more influence on both political issues and society.
This is me
Favourite food: casserole rice
Favourite singer or band: Bruce Springsteen
I admire: there are many people I appreciate on a professional level, like Asier Larrañaga, whom I respect a lot, and many people I like on a personal level.
Superpower I´d like to have: make people understand each other.
In Spain, I’d take you to: my home, because it is the best I know and where I could explain things that you would surely not find if you were alone.
